Privacy Policy for Bookmark

This Privacy Policy describes how Bookmark ("the app", "we", "us") handles your information.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your Google account's basic profile information (name, email address, profile photo) via Google Sign-In and Firebase Authentication, solely to identify your account and enable cloud sync.

If you do not sign in, the app functions entirely offline and no account data is collected.

Reading Data (synced only if signed in)

When signed in, the following is stored in Google Firestore (Google Cloud) under your account, so it can sync across your devices:

• Reading positions/progress
• Highlights, notes, and bookmarks you create
• A content-derived identifier for each book (not the book file itself) used to match the same book across devices

This data is never shared with other users or third parties, and is used only to provide the sync feature to you.

Crash and Diagnostic Data

We use Firebase Crashlytics to automatically collect crash reports and basic device diagnostics (device model, OS version, app version, stack traces) when the app crashes. This helps us fix bugs. This data is not linked to your identity beyond an anonymous installation ID.

Local Data (not collected by us)

Book files you import, and all your reading data if you never sign in, are stored only on your device in an encrypted local database. We do not have access to this data, and it is never transmitted anywhere.

2. Permissions We Use

• Storage access: to let you import book files (EPUB, PDF, etc.) from your device.
• Internet / network state: to enable optional Google Sign-In and cloud sync, and to check connectivity before syncing.

We do not access your contacts, location, camera, microphone, or any other device data.

3. How We Use Information

• To provide core app functionality (reading, organizing your library)
• To sync your reading progress, highlights, notes, and bookmarks across your devices, if you opt in via sign-in
• To diagnose and fix crashes

We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties except the service providers below (who process it strictly on our behalf).

4. Third-Party Services

Bookmark uses the following Google/Firebase services, each governed by Google's own privacy policy:

• Firebase Authentication (Google Sign-In)
• Cloud Firestore (sync storage)
• Firebase Crashlytics (crash reporting)

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Your synced data is retained as long as your account is active. To delete your account and synced data, see our Delete Account instructions. Locally stored data (books, offline reading data) can be deleted at any time by uninstalling the app or clearing app data.

6. Children's Privacy

Bookmark is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date above.
